A new model was released and the customer needed scans of the control arms to create some new ones that were stronger and had more travel. Again we only needed the vital mounting points modeled in Solidworks – the customer handled the re-design of the arms himself.
You can see the crazy patterns that the scanner uses to cast over the part to grab the 3d shape. It takes many different photos with about 30 patterns, then extrapolates the information it receives. I use something with a pattern for a base when I scan – it helps register the multiple scans together. Also note the white anti-reflection spray. It really helps with shiny parts.
